Duran Duran Nokia Theatre 9/27/2011

What an incredible day in Downtown LA.    It was a nice afternoon and there was a lot going on at LA Live.  There were two shows going on- Duran Duran and Arch Enemy.  The two crowds couldn’t have been more different.  Most of the Duran Duran fans were happy-go-lucky types and the Arch Enemy crowd was a little more “intense”.

There wasn’t an event at Staples, but they were filming a show for Guinness World Records in the corridor where I saw a guy almost get mutilated by a paintball gun.   This was some random and weird stuff.

Lobster Burger- the best (love the YARD HOUSE!!)!

After hanging at out and observing all the festivities out front for a while, I got into the Nokia right as Duran Duran was starting their set around 9:15. The sound and visuals were great and the band sounded superb. I am in shock at how all the classics have held up so well and the fact that the songs were played to near perfection. I was a little bored during some of the newer and lesser-known songs, but it didn’t take away from the fact that this was one of the best shows of the year. The show seemed to only last for about half an hour, but they played a solid set and left the stage right around 11:00. I walked around the suite section and watched the crowd leave. I then was going to make my way over to Club Nokia for the rest of the Arch Enemy show.

Out front of the theater, the record attempts continued with 69 women standing there in their bras as some guy attempted to set a world record for unhooking bras. I never knew that such an activity existed. A bunch of onlookers cracked some great jokes and I was happy to sit there and laugh along for a while. Since Duran Duran didn’t play “Girls On Film”, this was a good supplement… Afterwards, I went and checked out the end of Arch Enemy. They sounded really good, but were almost finished by the time I stopped wandering around so distracted after Duran Duran finished.

Anyhow, it was a great evening and this show will definitely go down as one of the year’s best, for sure.

Jealous! Wanted to go to this concert something bad, but had just come off of a road trip and needed to do some serious O.T. at the job. Had to settle with the opportunity to see ’em at the Jimmy Kimmel taping and @ Coachella via MacBook. Thanks for a taste of the show. Next time, for sure!
