Carl Verheyen Band The Canyon Club 12/1/2011

I first saw Carl as the guitarist of Supertramp sometime back in the 90s.   He’s a very in-demand session player and also has some excellent solo albums.     I saw this band here about a year ago and was completely blown away by the drumming and some parts of the concert- mostly the instrumental interplay between the musicians.    Carl can definitely play the guitar, Dave Marotta is an excellent bass player and Walfredo Reyes, Jr. is one of the most exciting, innovative and competent drummers ever.   They played a 2 hour set that covered many styles of music with excellent soloing from all three guys.   They played a Supertramp song, a Beatles song, a few other covers and some of originals.   It was a nice night for people that really appreciate quality music.    Having said that, it wasn’t much of a draw.  There aren’t too many trios that are this musically talented, but it wasn’t like the venue was close to sold out or anything. Here’s a special section of all the people that got right in the way when I was trying to take a picture of the band(not that I was trying too hard):
